Can I use my laptop as a modem to connec ...

If so how? I connect my xbox to my laptop through an ethernet port on its side. I test the connection but it fails at the IP adress. Please helpCan I use my laptop as a modem to connec ...
connecting it through the laptop is a huge hassle...i do it all the time..heres what you need to do....if you have a vista laptop, then connect the xbox to the ethernet port of the laptop, now that shud show up on you network connections page......after that go to the wireless port of the laptop and right click on it, and click properties, then click the sharing tab, and check the box below which says allow other users to use this internet conection...then youll get a message that says somethign abt the IP address, just click ok........now the problem is everytime you shut off the laptop, or everytime the screen saver comes on, youll have to uncheck that sharing tab, and check it again..its like resetting it....thats why its such a hassle....if this doesnt work...PM me...ill explain it betterCan I use my laptop as a modem to connec ...
I'm trying to do the same exact thing as dinofan01....I can get as far on the xbox360 to test the connection and it confirms adapter is wired, ip address confirmed, dns confirmed, but it fails on the mtu test. Any help?edit: I have a router and went into manually set the MTU to 1500 and had the same outcome. Also running Windows Vista and trying to run it over my wireless connection(laptop is in my room and wireless router is downstairs and connection runs perfect on my laptop)....
bumpage..
i have that problem too but in th comp i got nothing bout IP
anyone cured of their new years hangover able to help?
OK I do this all the time as well, its actually really simple and I have never had any of those issues and I have done it on both my Desktop and Laptop. All you do is in your network connections on Vista or XP you just select the Wireless Card or NIC that is connecting to the internet and then the other NIC that is connected to the 360 ethernet port and then right click one of the two you selected and click bridge connections. I think I also had to do a share connection on the NIC/Wireless card that connects to the internet but not sure I will have to check my Vista PC. I have never heard of this issue the guy was talking about earlier where he would lose his connection on restart or screensaver, I just have my 360 birdged to my Desktop so when ever it is on I can get on live.

When I bridged the connection on my laptop though, it would bridge ok but then my wireless connection would stop working....could any of my problems be related to any of the xbox live downtime?
Well I was wrong you don't need to share the connection on the Internet NIC, all you should have to do is bridge the connection between the two and you should be good to go. I have had the problem before where the internet wouldn't work on the PC but I got it to work again somehow I will have to think about how I did that. But niether of the connections should be shared. And I don't think it has to do with live cause I am on live right now through a bridged connection
NOTE: also after you bridge the connections on your laptop you may need to restart the 360 for it to work, the computer shouldnt need to be, but if its not owrking it wouldn't hurt.
joelcomp1....i dunno why i lose the connection to the internet everytime the screensaver comes on or everytime i shut down the computer and restart it...but its no big proble as resetting the sharing properties takes only 3 minutes.....you have to share on a Vista laptop or PC....cos bridging doesnt work...for xp bridging is fine......i think i need to change some settings on my computer to allow the internet connection to be active even after i shut down the comp.....cos everytime that happens, the IP address fails on the 360 connection test....
I've tried everything people have said to do in this thread:1.Tried sharing my wireless and it get stuck on the MTU test2.Bridging the connection makes my wireless connection stop working3. I've tried sharing and bridgin to no avail4. I've opened up ports 88UDP and 3074TCP/UDP on my router with no luckAm I just plain stupid and missing something or is it just me?
i can only hellp out someone with a vista laptop with a wireless connection...since thats all ive tried.....first, connect the 360 the the laptop with the ehternet cablesecond, go to the manage by connections tab and open it, you shud see a wireless connection (if not connect the laptop to the internet wirelessly), and also another connection (forgot what its called, but it shud be right next to the wireless one), this one is your 360 connection...next right click on the wireless connection, and click properties, then click the sharing tab, and click on the option that says ''allow other users to use this connection''....a message shud pop up saying somethinng abt an IP address, just click OK...and then test your connection......you may have to repeat the steps from the sharing tab everytime you connect to live ..but thats only if you remove the ethernet cable from the laptop to the 360...other than that youre good to go.....
also do not bridge connections if youre using VISTA as that doesnt work......

Is that an issue? Also when I looked elsewhere for help, I saw that everyone says that you need a crossover cable but isn't that the same thing is an Ethernet cable?edit: when I look on my ethernet cable it says ''patch cable''. Does that mean that there are 2 different types of Ethernet?
that wud only be an issue with the IP adress failing, but from youre earlier posts i see you have no problem with the IP address...and the crossover cable is the regular ethernt cable..i use the one that came with the xbox 360
I'm not using the cable that came with the x360 because it was too short.....so might it be the cable I'm using that is the issue?
as long as its a regular ethernet cable you shud be fine...try looking up some stuff on the internet with your problem, since i dont know how to fix it, you may have better luck..i usually just mess around with stuff and figure things out on my own, its easier to remember that way..but try using the internet its always useful...
You have to bridge connections.
