Zune or no Zune

I just got back from the middle east and updated my XB360 and apparently everything media related on my hdd is thru Zune. Before, all my purchased videos/movies could be viewed offline but now it looks like I need to sign in to see my own stuff! WTF is this all about? Is there a workaround?
