I've looked around google but haven't been able to find a solid source. Can I use HDMI on the first generation 360 without additional hardware? (ie. Adapters)Can first generation 360's use HDMI cabl ...
no.youll have to get a newer model,or at least one thats a couple of years old.Can first generation 360's use HDMI cabl ...
You can't, I'm sorry.
Never mind, I confirmed that I cannot use an HDMI cable on a first generation 360. I feel so gimped though, just because I bought my 360 early I don't get to experience full HD? Microsoft should upgrade old 360 to ones that have an HDMI port. I was thinking of buying a 1080p HDTV but that would be a waste since my 360 wont be able to use 1080p. So now I gotta buy a new 360 with an HDMI port if I were to get a new TV. Stupid Microsoft....

No, no, no, don't be upset. True that your old 360 doesn't support HDMI, but you could use VGA, it supports up to 1080p as well. And the picture quality is no different from HDMI. My friend had the same problem as you, he even ordered an HDMI cable, but now he uses VGA and he is still a very happy man. So trust me, get VGA, but you figure out how to.

Unfortunately VGA supports only ''Video output settings of 480p, 720p or 1080i''. If I were to use VGA, I don't think it will be ''no different from HDMI''. I'm just feeling really pessimistic right now, is it true VGA is as good as HDMI?
Yeah it's the same..right?
Don't worry, the majority of games aren't even natively 1080p. The 360 has a video chip that up/downscales to your specific resolution. Most 360 games are actually just 720p up or downscaled by the system.
No it can't
I am positive that VGA supports up to 1080p. The only difference between VGA and HDMI, besides just the amount of cable plugs being used, its security. Through VGA cables, it is very vulnerable for piracy, HDMI is introduced to secure piracy as that it does not allow people to copy stuff off from TV with the same resolution to a disk. That's why newer generation of HDTVs will not support VGA plugs. I get the information from a home theatre specialist, he explained well to me, I forgot some, so it may not make sense what I just said, but 1080p of course.

So when I go to my settings I will be able to pick 1080p and my xbox will run fine?
Even if you could only get 1080i over VGA/component, your TV would just deinterlace it back up to 1080p anyway (even though it says 1080i o the screen). It would make no difference.
HDMI wasn't introduced until the Elite came out at the end of 2007, and only became standard on all models sometime in 2008.
You can use the 360VGA cable, and that will allow you to set your dashboard to a lot of different resolutions, but I think as son as you go into a game it will just revert back to 720p, or whatever the game was designed to run at as its maximum - it will not try to resize it to the resolution you have your console displaying the dashboard
i dont mean to sound funny mate but how on earth did you think it might support hdmi without an adapter?? it just does'nt have hdmi its that simple. however there are adapters available.:D
Erm i'm not being funny but isn't this kind of a stupid question? Just look on the back of your Xbox 360 console, that's what i did lol.
