Ive noticed that with the back of the elite there is no switch for turning Standard into HD. Now be it, the only 360 version ive owned was the launch version. I have a new 60 inch samsung and when i plug in the elite it looks kinda.......weak. Is there an option to change the resolution for the 360 or does it scale automatically?
O-k....there is no switch on the back of any of the 360's ... never has been. The switch is on the component/s-video block (the bit that connects to the 360) rather than the console itself.
Secondly the reason the 360 looks rubbish on your HD tv is likely because, having not noticed the location of the switch, you have it set to standard defintiton. Infact actually what cable have you connected it to the tv with? :SQuestion about the 360 elite version
Have you changed the visual settings in the Xbox itself? What connection are you using (component, composite, HDMI)?
I am currently using composite. I've tried to switch resolution on it but there is no option for it in the system settings ( well there is but it will not let me select it)

Then you cant posibly have set the switch to the right position, there should be no problems

Composite cable as in just the red/white/yellow? That is not an HD cable so you will not be able to get HD resolutions out of it...

Thank you for clearing that one up. Now for my second question.......WHY THE HELL WOULD MICROSOFT NOT GIVE ME HD CABLES WITH A 350 DOLLAR MACHINE? Ah i'm so friggin pissed.

Now are you sure that you didn't get the correct cable? Its a Red, Yellow, White, Green, and Blue cable with two reds. Are you sure you didn't get this cable? On the Cable there should be a switch, first you must plug in all of the correct cords to your TV, then you must turn the HD on from the switch, and then you have to go into System Settings to turn on which resolution you want like 720p, or 1080p. Now, are you sure you didn't get the correct cable?
Well, it's a $300 machine, but they did it to save costs...They used to include an HDMI cable when it was $400.
You can get HDMI cables online for under $10, monoprice or cablesforless are good sites that I've used.

It's no longer included, they downgraded to the composite cable for all the systems.

That's ridiculous... I can't believe they would downgrade... I just bought my 2nd Xbox less than two months ago (Because my first went to heaven with all the other Xbox's who die... I miss her... ) and I got all the HD cords.I know the system never came with HDMI cables (Or at least I never knew about Xbox's coming with them), but it at least came with the correct component cables I needed for HD.
It's cool. I was justy a little strapped for cash this month is all. I should be good to go out and get HDMI cables anyway. That hurts to know I missed it by a few months though.

That's the trade-off for including games with the bundle, I suppose ;)
A word of warning about HDMI cables...Be very aware of pricing. Lots of places (Best Buy especially) will rip you off. DO NOT be suckered into paying anything over $20 for a 6 foot cable. There is no such thing as a higher quality cable for HDMI, the signal is either on or it's off, it's not like a component cable. Steer clear of brands like Monster.
Thank you, your very helpful. Hopefuly I don't get ripped off. Gaming goodness here I come!
